Friday, May 3rd
On Friday we got up, had breakfast, packed our car and headed out by about 8:30 in the morning. Before actually leaving town we made one more stop at my sister's house to say goodbye and get one last snuggle with Baby Neil:) It was a little sad because babies change so much so we know he's going to be so different when we see him again. But hopefully they'll be up to visit us sometime this summer.
After hanging out with them for a bit we finally hit the road at about 10:30. My parents caravanned with us too. We only had about 6.5 hours of driving to do this day but with the late start it actually seemed like more driving than the 9.5 hour day. We spent a short time on the road and then stopped for lunch at a Chili's in Oklahoma. Then we drove a couple more hours and stopped for ice cream at a place called Braum's which is a Missouri/Kansas/Oklahoma chain. It was yummy!
By this point we decided just to chug out the last few hours and not stop for dinner. So after driving through sun, rain, and SNOW!!! in Southern Missouri we finally arrived at our hotel in Springfield, MO. We bought the kids some Lunchables at a gas station and after they went to bed the adults ate in shifts at the Houlihan's at the hotel.
Saturday, May 4th
After 9 nights we were definitely excited to hit the road and head home that day. We woke up to 1.5 inches of snow on the ground and shorts to wear. It has NEVER snowed this late in the season in Missouri so no one expected it. I definitely didn't when I packed all summer clothes for us.
We had a delicious hotel breakfast. This was probably the best hotel breakfast we had the whole trip. Unfortunately it wasn't included so the fact that is cost extra made it not quite as good:) We hit the road before 9 and were able to get all the way past St. Louis before stopping for lunch. We stopped and had Penn Station with my parents and then we were off on our last leg home. The last leg was about 2.5 hours and flew by. We were home by 4 and the first thing I did was take a nap!
All in all we had a wonderful trip. I'm already planning where we can go next year for vacation because this trip was so successful:)
