The Zoo

Another thing we were able to do last week was go to the zoo. Don't get any wrong ideas about the number of events I manage to take both kids to though. We don't usually do this much extra stuff it just worked out that last week was a little full of fun. We spend most of our days running around the backyard and playroom, taking naps, and going for walks.

Anyway, Grace has been watching a Dora episode on Netflix lately that is all about animals. She is pretty obsessed with it so I figured it was the perfect time to take her to the zoo. I was right. She loved looking at the animals and walking around. We were able to go with some friends and my mom too. That made it even more fun. Grace and her friend just walked around holding hands the whole time. Too cute!

After spending a couple of hours at the zoo we hit up the playground, had a picnic lunch and went home for some naps. It was a perfect sunny spring day.

Touch-a-Truck

Last week a friend of ours emailed to see if we wanted to go to a event called Touch-a-Truck. We decided that despite the cooler weather it would be a fun event to attend. The basic idea is there are tons of trucks, buses, police cars, etc.. parked at a local park that kids can climb in an touch.

Despite the fact that Grace had to wait in line (which she doesn't quite get) she loved being able to climb up in trucks and buses. Of course her favorite was the firetruck which came complete with a new hat. She now loves to say, "I'm a firefighter."

Thankful Thursday

When I started this challenge to come up with 1000 things I was thankful for I thought I'd be done in about a week. It's taking a little ok lot longer than that. I am definitely enjoying keeping track of fun things but I'm sure I'm going to have some repeats. Just to clear things up if it is a repeat it is because I had a renewed thankfulness for that particular thing during the week leading up to the post.

So, here is this weeks list...

Things I Like

I'm always looking for new ideas and cute things to introduce into my home especially now that we've moved. There is still a lot of decorating left to do so I'm always on the prowl. I don't plan on buying any of these things anytime soon (although I would accept them as birthday gifts:) ), but here are some (expensive) things I'm loving these days.

• I really want a big rug for our entry hall. This one from Pier 1 Imports has grabbed my heart.
• Who doesn't love a picture of beautiful birds. This would be a beauty in the entry hall with the beautiful rug.
• How about a bedroom set? Someday we'll have more than just mattress and boxspring and this is my current favorite.
• I'd love to check my email and read blogs on a small handheld device. We can't have iphones with our current provider but an ipod touch would be acceptable (and it would look cute on the counter when not in use).
• We just might actually get one of these someday soon. I could spend naptime working out my fingers on this keyboard instead of the computer keyboard.
• To decorate the garage how about this? I love my Ford Escape and Matt is doing well with the car (which hopefully has at least 2 years or more left in it) but a girl can dream right.
• And one last little piece for the yard. I guess this is not so little but it would be tons of fun.

This post is in no way expressing discontent with what I have. I am so blessed and would be totally fine without these things. They just are fun to look at and consider. Well I might not be fine without the piano. I'm getting the itch to own our own.

2 Month Photo Comparison

I just couldn't help but post these 2 photos. The first one was taken of Grace right at 2 months and the 2nd one is Caleb today at 2 months. I think they look like siblings:)

Caleb - 2 Months Old

Happy 2 months to Caleb! We had a great month and I really feel like I'm getting to know this little guy.

Eating: Caleb is still a champion nurser. At the very beginning of this month he started waking up only once at night so he dropped one of his nursing times and was down to eating only 7 times a day. In the last week he has dropped another one a few times so he's eaten only 6 times a day several times. Although right at 6 weeks Caleb had a growth spurt and ate an extra time during the day for a couple days.

Another great accomplishment on the eating front is Caleb takes a bottle! Grace was never great at this feat so it is amazing to be able to leave or bring a bottle of pumped milk out if I don't feel like nursing Caleb wherever we are going. At this point he is getting about 2 bottles a week and I think I'll try to continue to make that happen. It is very freeing and I'm glad that it is working out.

Sleeping: Caleb is dong a great job sleeping. His awake time has extended during the day so his naps aren't quite as long as they used to be. He takes about one long (2+ hour) nap a day and 2-3 other naps that range from 45-90 minutes. These aren't super predictable yet. I'm looking forward to getting him on a good nap schedule in a month or 2 when he is ready for it.

He is also doing well at night. About mid-month we recognized he was getting really tired at around 7:30 or 8 so we started putting him down for bed then. Then I wake him up and feed him before I go to bed (usually around 10). And then he wakes once up to eat whenever he wants before morning. In the last week he's actually made it until 5:30 or 6:00 a few times and even 6:45 this morning. I'm really hoping that becomes a habit.

Playing: Caleb is getting a lot more social now too. He loves to smile and has adorable dimples. He also giggles and coos a lot now especially right after eating. He's so happy and full:) I can tell that Caleb is more interested in looking at toys and things farther across the room. He also really likes to look at himself in the mirror.

1 Month Appointment: Because our doctor is so busy we had our 1 month appointment at 6 weeks so I'll give you that update now. His 2 month appointment isn't for another 2 weeks so I'll give that update next month. Caleb was 12 lbs and 6 oz. (89th percentile) at his appointment. I don't remember his height or head circumference but the both were around the 50th percentile.

Our doctor also noticed he was still a little yellow so he had to get some blood work done to test his billirubin levels. Apparently, breastfed babies can remain jaundice for up to 3 months and this is completely normal. Thankfully his blood work came back fine and he his one of the normal babies that have breastmilk jaundice.
